during the banquet, mcqueen is confronted by his former mentor luigi venizelos, who blames himself for not helping mcqueen to reach his full potential. feeling sorry for him, luigi decides to help his old friend in any way that he can.
before you know it, lightning mcqueen (and the entire world, for that matter) is living under the roof of luigi venizelos, working in his racing shop, as well as getting into races at nascar. although mcqueen is feeling worn down, luigi keeps on pestering him about racing more.
somehow, sarge also gets into racing again, but after a crash in which he collides with a car belonging to josh hurricaneswirl, he is taken to the piston cup retirement facility, where he tells mcqueen that he is ready to retire as a racer.
mcqueen finds out that sarge was listening to the whole wda fiasco and decided to retire as a racer and now work at the piston cup retirement facility for a while. then, mcqueen informs he about how josh hurricaneswirl and his new-gen car is already out there racing, but sarge doesn't give up on racing and decides to go to the pacific northwest and speak with the pacific racers championship to be his last race, and challenges that new-gen racer to a race for all the cars he ever had.
